Univision Chicago Makes History, Becoming First Spanish-Language TV Station in Chicago to Rank #1 in News Among Adults 18-49, Regardless of Language
Chicago, IL -- May 25, 2006 - Univision Chicago finishes the all important Nielsen Station Index (NSI) May 2006 sweep period as the #1 5pm newscast among Adults 18-49 with a 1.3 rating and among Adults 18-34 with a 1.0 rating, regardless of language. For the first time in the history of the station and for the first time in the market, Univision Chicago, a Spanish-language station, ranks #1 in news among Adults 18-49. Univision Chicago News was also the #2 5pm newscast among Adults 25-54 with a 1.3 rating. Univision Chicago News was the only 5pm newscast to increase its share of viewing among Adults 18-34 (+ 20%) over April 2006.
Univision Chicago finished 4th in the sweep during primetime Monday through Sunday among Adults 18-34 with a 1.6 rating out-delivering WBBM/CBS by 33%.
According to the Chicago Nielsen Hispanic Station Index (NHSI) Univision Chicago/WGBO and TeleFutura Chicago/WXFT finished the May 2006 sweep as the #1 and #2 Spanish-language stations in primetime and all day long Monday through Sunday among Hispanic adults. Univision Chicago/WGBO and TeleFutura Chicago/WXFT make an unbeatable combination reaching around 84% of Hispanic Adults 18-49 during primetime and all day long.
Univision Chicago News remains the #1 choice among Hispanic viewers at 5pm and 10pm, delivering nearly three times the Adult 18-49 audience at 5pm and over four times the audience as Telemundo’s “Noticiero 44” at 10pm. TeleFutura Chicago’s “Contacto Deportivo” ranks #2 at 10pm topping Telemundo’s 10pm News by 16%.
