Fiestas Patrias Festival to Support Univision Radio’s Hurricane Katrina Fundraising Relief Effort “Los Hispanos Damos la Mano”

Glendale, CA -- Univision Radio, the largest Spanish-language radio broadcaster in the United States, today announced that in conjunction with its national fundraising initiative, “Los Hispanos Damos La Mano” (“Hispanics Lend a Hand”), Univision Radio and the American Red Cross will collect donations for the victims of Hurricane Katrina at this year’s El Grito/Fiestas Patrias Festival, which commemorates Mexican Independence Day.

All of Univision’s Los Angeles area radio stations, La Nueva 101.9 FM, KLVE 107.5 FM, 103.9 Recuerdo 98.3 FM and 1020 AM, will unite for the day-long effort, which will take place at Whittier Narrows Park in the City of El Monte outside of Los Angeles on Sunday, September 18th beginning at 10 a.m.

Univision Radio’s Eddie “Piolín” Sotelo, one of the country’s leading radio personalities, will join music producer Emilio Estefan as well as other celebrities and international recording artists at this special fundraising event. Headlining the festival will be music legend Joan Sebastian, who will be accompanied by an all-star lineup: Montez de Durango, Sin Bandera, Lalo Mora, Polo Urias Luis Fonsi, German Lizarraga, Rocio Sandoval “La Peligrosa”, Juan Rivera, Los Baron de Apodaca, Mercedes Castro, Control and Jimena, among others. Famous on-air personalities are slated to appear as well, including: Omar y Argelia, Carlos Alvarez and Sofía Soria from KLVE 107.5 FM, Carlos Madriz “El Paisa” and Marcela Luevanos from La Nueva 101.9 FM, Jaime Piña and Amalia Gonzalez from 103.9 Recuerdo 98.3, Hugo “El Gordo” Cadelago and Hipólito Gamboa along with the rest of the Hablando de Deportes team on 1020 AM.

The Fiestas Patrias Festival in Los Angeles will be the largest fundraising event for the “Los Hispanos Damos La Mano” initiative. Univision Radio stations across the country have also been organizing other efforts to support this initiative.

In order to reach out to all constituents interested in contributing to the fundraising efforts, Univision has enlisted its entire platform of media outlets in a number of local and national projects.
