“La Feria de la Mujer y la Familia” — Sunday, March 16th

Houston, TX -- Univision Radio’s KLTN-FM, KOVE-FM, KQBU-FM, KPTY- FM, KLAT-AM, KRTX-AM Radio / Houston and H-E-B Grocery Co. present the sixth Annual “La Feria de la Mujer y la Familia 2008” (Women and Family Festival 2008), a celebration for Hispanic women, their families and friends. Together with Univision Channel 45 and TeleFutura Channel 67, the event will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2007 from 12:30 pm – 7:00 pm. at the George R. Brown Convention Center located at 1001 Avenue of the Americas in downtown Houston. The event is free to the public. H-E-B is the proud title sponsor, and tickets are available at all Houston area H-E-B stores.

“The history of the Hispanic culture is as rich as the great state of Texas. H-E-B is part of that rich history of Texas and is proud to serve as the title sponsor of ‘La Feria de la Mujer y la Familia’ for the fifth year in a row,” said James Harris, director of supplier diversity for H-E-B. “H-E-B is committed to supporting the Houston community and is excited to partner with Univision to celebrate the Hispanic community in Houston.”

Once again, “Feria de la Mujer y la Familia 2008” will host many celebrities who will sign autographs and interact with the public, including Dr. Isabel Gómez-Bassols, better known to her legions of fans around the country as “la Doctora Isabel, el Angel de la Radio” (Dr. Isabel, the Angel of the Airwaves).  Festival attendees will also be treated to a special hair show by international celebrity hair designer, Samy, known as the creative genie and guru of hair-styling.

In addition, $100 H-E-B Grocery Co. gift certificates will be raffled every ten minutes throughout the duration of the event. Univision Radio and TV personalities will also be signing autographs, taking pictures and joining in the celebration. Renzo Heredia of La Tremenda 1010AM and Adriana Calhoun of Recuerdo 106.5FM will serve as masters of ceremonies. Additional attractions include a special fashion show and dance performance by Patricia Lessa Agency for Hispanic Talent & Modeling; ballet folklorico dance performances by Patricia Astorga’s Sabor Mexico co-sponsored by the Mexican Consulate; the “Nuestra Palabra: Latino Writers Having Their Say” Art and Literature Pavilion featuring children’s storytelling and readings by well-known authors; a Children’s Activities Pavilion including organizations such as the Children’s Museum of Houston; and blood pressure screenings and aerobics demonstrations by the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.

“Feria de la Mujer y la Familia 2008” is proud to once again celebrate the National Sor Juana Festival, which has been held in Chicago for the past 14 years and has now expanded to its second year in Houston. This festival serves to honor Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz--one of Mexico’s greatest writers--and to celebrate and showcase the rich artistic accomplishments of Mexican women from Mexico and the United States.

From exhibits, to demonstrations, to entertainment, the celebration will serve as an ideal opportunity for many organizations and businesses to share their products, services, and information in a casual and fun environment.  Well-known Hispanic speakers will present a variety of topics of interest to Hispanic women and their families, including health & fitness, home & garden, fashion & beauty, children’s activities, career & education, art & literature, entertainment, cooking demonstrations, and financial advice.
