Bert Medina Named Senior Vice President and Operating Manager, Telefutura Network

Vincent Cordero named Vice President and General Manager, Chicago Univision and Telefutura stations


Los Angeles, CA -- Univision Communications Inc. (NYSE:UVN), the nation’s leading Spanish-language media company, today announced that Bert Medina has been promoted to Senior Vice President and Operating Manager of the TeleFutura Network, effective immediately. Mr. Medina will be responsible for overseeing all operations, including programming, promotions, talent relations, technical operations and news for the TeleFutura Network.  He will be based in Miami and will report to Ray Rodriguez, President and Chief Operating Officer, Univision Communications Inc.  Mr. Medina is replacing Alina Falcón, who has been promoted to Executive Vice President and Operating Manager of the Univision Network. Mr. Medina was formerly the Vice President and General Manager of Univision WGBO-TV and TeleFutura WXFT-TV in Chicago.

Univision also announced that Vincent Cordero has been promoted to Vice President and General Manager, Univision WGBO-TV and TeleFutura WXFT-TV in Chicago. His responsibilities will include overseeing all operations of WGBO and WXFT, including local programming, advertising, promotions, technical operations, sales, and news. Mr. Cordero will report to Mike Wortsman and Tom Arnost, Co-Presidents, Univision Television Group.

Since 1998, Bert Medina has served as Vice President and General Manager, Univision WGBO-TV and TeleFutura WXFT-TV in Chicago. Under his leadership, WGBO has made monumental changes to better serve Chicago’s Latino television viewers including the expansion to weekend newscasts.  “Noticias Univision Chicago” was the first regularly scheduled Spanish language weekend newscast in the Chicago market. In addition, Univision Chicago launched “Primera Plana Chicago,” a weekly public affairs show that received a Silver Dome Award for Best Locally Produced Public Affairs Program from the Illinois Broadcasters Association. Before joining Univision, Mr. Medina was Vice President of Programming and Operations and Corporate Director of Programming for Sunbeam Television Corporation. From 1984-1996 Mr. Medina held a variety of positions at WSVN Television in Miami, including Director of Broadcast Operations, Research Director Marketing, Research & Cable Relations and Research Analyst. While there, he founded the South Florida Research Council.  He currently serves on the Boards of the Museum of Science and Industry, Columbia College, and Illinois Broadcasters Association. Mr. Medina holds a Bachelor's degree in Media Management from Florida International University.

Previously Vincent Cordero served as Vice President Business Development and Labor Affairs, Univision Communications Inc. where he was involved in the television station group business plan process, labor affairs and union negotiations, recruitment, and other television station group corporate initiatives. He joined Univision in 1999 as a member of the Executive Associate Program, a management development program initiated by Univision in 1993. Mr. Cordero graduated Magna Cum Laude from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy, Political Science, and Chicano Studies in 1996. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1999.
