Univision Presents Diabetes Special “Diabetes… Su Guía De Prevención” On Saturday, December 9

Miami, FL -- As part of Univision’s on-going health initiative, “Salud es Vida…!Entérate!” (Lead a Healthy Life…Get the Facts!), Univision will air a half-hour special on Saturday, December 9th at 10 am ET/PT (9 am Central) entitled, “Diabetes...Su Guía de Prevención” (Diabetes…Your Guide to Prevention). According to the American Diabetes Association, in the United States, nearly 21 million people suffer from Diabetes, a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin, the hormone regulating the amount of sugar in the blood. Amongst the Hispanic community, the percentage of diagnosed patients with Diabetes increases yearly, now reaching nearly 2.5 million nationally.

The special‘s host, Ana María Canseco of Univision’s morning news and entertainment program “Despierta América,” will guide viewers through an informative half-hour that will educate viewers about Diabetes, its complications, and how to control and prevent further progression of this disease.  The program will take an in-depth look at the increasing number of children and adolescents who are diagnosed with Type I Diabetes, as well as the most common form of the disease, Type II Diabetes, which usually occurs after the age of 45.

“Diabetes...Su Guía de Prevención” will also underline the importance of oral care among people with Diabetes and other complications stemming from this disease including, blindness, heart complications, amputations and kidney disease.
