"Premios Juventud" Set to Sizzle with RBD, Enrique Iglesias, Thalia, Luis Fonsi, Gloria Trevi, Flex, Tito "El Bambino," Fonseca, Olga Tañón, Los Tucanes De Tijuana, Belanova, Pee Wee, Alacranes Musical, Akwid, And Menudo, Among Others

Regional Mexican Music Icon Pedro Fernández to be Honored for His Extraordinary 30 Year Career Popular Novela Stars Eduardo Santamarina and Mayrín Villanueva Host 5th Edition of Univision Network’s Youth Awards Show


Miami, FL -- It was confirmed today that some of Latin show business’ hottest and brightest stars will perform on the 2008 edition of Univision’s wildly popular “Premios Juventud” youth awards program, television’s #1 awards show honoring recording artists, movie stars, sports figures, and fashion and pop culture icons popular with this country’s Hispanic youth. Hosted by popular novela stars Eduardo Santamarina and Mayrín Villanueva, the 5th annual “Premios Juventud” awards show will air LIVE from Miami on Thursday, July 17th at 8pm ET/PT (7pm Central) on the Univision Television Network.
 
In keeping with the eclectic lineup of artists and musical genres the show has come to be known for, the high-energy three-hour telecast will include performances by some of today’s most sought-after recording artists, several of whom will debut their new singles for the first time on television. Artists scheduled to appear include the widely acclaimed international pop sensation RBD; multiplatinum recording artist Enrique Iglesias; international super star Thalia; Puerto Rican heartthrob Luis Fonsi; the irreverent Mexican pop-rock singer Gloria Trevi; reggeatón star Tito “El Bambino” and newcomer Flex; award-winning Colombian singer Fonseca; award-winning merengue and Latin pop artist Olga Tañón; the chart-topping regional Mexican music band Los Tucanes de Tijuana; the mega-popular synth-pop band Belanova; making his solo TV debut, the up and coming artist Pee Wee; the Duranguense music band Alacranes Musical; L.A.’s own urban duo Akwid; and the new generation of the popular boy band Menudo, among others. In addition, regional Mexican music icon Pedro Fernández will be honored with a special “Trayectoria Artística” (Career Achievement) award for his extraordinary 30 year-long career in entertainment. 
 
Also joining the stellar roster of performers to present some of the night’s hottest awards are, Wisin y Yandel, Aventura, Black Guayaba, Jorge Ramos, Marlene Favela, Arleth Terán, Jackie Guerrido, Jorge Celedon, Kudai, Marcela Mar, and Melissa Marty, among others.
 
Preceding the awards show telecast, Univision will present exclusive coverage of the celebrity arrivals direct from the “Premios Juventud” Green-Themed Carpet starting at 7 pm ET/PT (6 pm Central). Hosted by popular Univision personality Rafael Mercadante and TeleFutura’s "Escándalo TV" co-anchor Lilia Luciano, the pre-show telecast will feature live interviews and commentary on the stars and their fashions, as well as a special surprise live musical performance.
 
As always, “Premios Juventud” will set an irreverent tone and be filled with surprises and cutting-edge musical numbers. In 2007, “Premios Juventud” reached 9.7 million unduplicated viewers (P2+)* and was one of the year’s top-rated specials for Univision.
