Transportes González e Hija (González & Daughter Trucking Co.) is the hilarious and heartbreaking story that explores the bonds between fathers and daughters and the power of female friendship. Libertad González is a model prisoner in the Mexicali Penal Institution for Women. In prison, Libertad tells tales of her father, a former literature professor and fugitive with a murderous past, who reinvents himself as a long haul trucker in the United States. Together father and daughter travel the country in an 18-wheeler, sharing everything – from truck stop cuisine to memories of Libertad’s mother – until Libertad grows up and a chance encounter changes her life forever.
María Amparo Escandón is a best-selling author who published her first novel, Esperanza’s Box of Saints (Santitos) in 1999. Santitos eventually became a feature film in Mexico. To date, Santitos has received awards at 14 Film Festivals around the world, including the Latin American Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival, Best Film at the Guadalajara Film Festival and Best Film at the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival. Ms. Escandón was named the “Writer to Watch” by Newsweek Magazine in 1999 and the “Writer to Watch” by the Los Angeles Times in 2000. She lives in Los Angeles, California.
