Hispanic Youth Name Nominees for Univision’s Premios Juventud - Third Edition of Highly Rated Awards Show To Air on July 13th
Daddy Yankee, Thalía, RBD, Chayanne, Shakira, Juanes, Antonio Banderas and Alex Rodríguez Among Nominees
Miami, FL -- MAY 15, 2006 Univision Communications Inc. (NYSE: UVN) –“Premios Juventud” (Youth Awards), Spanish-language television’s hippest and most unconventional awards show returns for its third edition to honor the biggest names in Latin show business, fashion and sports. The 3-hour star-studded entertainment special will again be broadcast LIVE from the University of Miami on the Univision Network on Thursday, July 13 from 8-11 pm ET/PT (7-10 pm Central/Mountain).
Recognizing popularity and overall appreciation in five distinct areas – Film, Music, Sports, Fashion and Pop Culture – the “Premios Juventud” recipients will be determined by popular vote online on Univision.com (Keyword: Premios Juventud), the country’s #1 Spanish-language website.
A tremendous ratings blockbuster in its first and second year, “Premios Juventud” will bestow awards in 28 unconventional categories specifically created to celebrate the preferences of today’s Hispanic youth. Winners will be announced within a fast-paced line-up of today’s hottest Latin music performances. Leading the pack with nine nominations each are Reggaetón superstar Daddy Yankee (“Red Hot Artist”) and supergroup RBD (“Paparrazi’s Favorite Target.”) Thalía has eight nominations including “CD to Die For” and “Favorite Pop Star.” Following close behind with five nominations each are perennial favorite Chayanne (“He’s a Hottie”) and Dulce María of “Rebelde” fame (“My Idol”.). Singer/songwriter Shakira has three nominations (“Best Moves”) and popular rocker Juanes has two with “Favorite Rock Star.”
In the film category, Antonio Banderas is nominated for “Can he act or what?” along with fellow thespians Andy García, Jaime Camil and John Leguizamo. The films nominated for “Favorite Flick” are “7 Días,” “Four Brothers,” “Rosario Tijueras,” “The Legend of Zorro” and “Voces Inocentes.” In the sports category, Alex Rodriguez, Cuauhtémoc Blanco, Oswaldo Sánchez, and Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa rival for “Most Electrifying Player”. And in what has come to be the next day’s most talked about category, “Hottest Romance,” the celebrity contenders are Ana Bárbara and El Pirru, Araceli Arámbula and Luis Miguel, Dulce María and Memo Ochoa and Luis Fonsi and Adamari López.
In addition to the many awards that will be bestowed on Latin stars, several scholarships will be awarded to Hispanic youths for their academic achievement. Applications and additional information can be obtained at Univision.com and must be submitted by May 26, 2006.
