Telefutura’s Objetivo Fama Grand Finale is a Hit with Hispanic America
Over 2 Million People Voted for Their Favorite Contestant
Miami, FL -- May 18, 2006 – TeleFutura, one of the leading Spanish-language television networks in the United States, celebrated the grand finale of its hit show “Objetivo Fama” (Objective Fame) on Sunday, May 14, 2006. Broadcast live in front of an audience of 1,800 from the Centro de Bellas Artes in Caguas, Puerto Rico, it was hosted by acclaimed Mexican singer/actress Yuri. Over 2 million people from across the U.S. and Puerto Rico called in to cast their vote for the next “Objetivo Fama” winner.
Of the thousands who auditioned in 18 cities across the country, only 20 candidates were selected to participate in the competition and after more than five months away from their families, only four were selected to take part in the finals in Caguas, Puerto Rico: Mary Ann Acevedo (Puerto Rico), Patricia Contreras (New York), Arquímides González (Puerto Rico) and Marlon Fernández (Miami.) Among the prizes at stake for TeleFutura’s next “Objetivo Fama” winner included: a recording contract with Univision Music Group, a $25,000 cash advance, a 2006 Pontiac Tourrent, $15,000 courtesy of Cingular Wireless, and other prizes.
“We would like to congratulate Marlon Fernández on an incredible performance and applaud him for his dedication and perseverance throughout these many months. We also want to acknowledge the great performances from all the contestants, who made the third season the best one yet,” said Bert Medina, Senior Vice President and Operating Manager for the TeleFutura Network. “We are thrilled with the success of ‘Objetivo Fama’ and the incredible response from the viewers to the Grand Finale.”
From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET/PT, Marisa del Portillo from TeleFutura’s “Escándalo TV” and Univision’s talent Carlos Calderón hosted the red carpet show for the big night.
The final competition, which aired from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET/PT, showcased the four finalists and featured duets with some of the most popular Latin music artists, including Graciela Beltrán, Victor Manuelle, the winner of last year’s “Objetivo Fama,” Anais. One of the most memorable performances of the night was the duet sung by Marlon and the popular Salsa singer La India.
Throughout the program, viewers were able to witness the tremendous hometown support for each of the candidates via satellite images from New York, Miami and Puerto Rico, the finalists’ hometowns. The big night continued with “Objetivo Fama: La Celebración” (Objective Fame: The Celebration) hosted by “Escándalo TV's” Lilia Rodriguez from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, where viewers saw exclusive behind-the-scenes reaction to Marlon's victory and the emotional festivities that followed.
