Spanish Language Telenovela Beats ‘Jeopardy’ & ‘Wheel of Fortune’ in NY Overnight Ratings as News Lead-INS Seize Top Spot for Univision

New York, NY -- For the second time in barely a week, a Spanish-language telenovela has beaten perennial victors “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune” in key audience measures in New York’s overnight Nielsen ratings race.  On the same evening, Univision also won New York’s early news races.
 
“Piel de Otoño,” a telenovela seen weekdays from 7 pm to 8 pm on Univision 41 (WXTV), New York’s premier Spanish-language TV station, won its time period last night (Tuesday, January 10, 2006) in key audience measures, viewers aged 18 to 49 and 25 to 54 years old with 229,000 viewers and 235,000 viewers respectively according to Nielsen Station Index (NSI) overnight Local People Meter (LPM) ratings. 
 
Perennial victors “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune” on WABC-TV Channel 7 finished fourth for the hour among those aged 18 to 49 with 156,000 viewers.  Second place went to WWOR Channel 9 with 213,000 viewers for “King of Queens,” and third place in the hour went to WNJU Channel 47 with 205,000 viewers aged 18 to 49.
 
 WABC/7’s “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune” finished second to Univision 41 among those aged 25 to 54 with 224,000 viewers.
 
Univision 41 also won New York’s early news races among young adult viewers yesterday.  At 6 pm “Noticias Univision 41” (Univision 41 News) with anchors Rafael Pineda and Denisse Oller was watched by 55,000 viewers aged 18 to 34 and 181,000 viewers aged 18 to 49.  WABC/7’s “Eyewitness News” was second in both measures with 50,000 and 168,000 viewers respectively.  In the 6:30 pm network news race, “Noticiero Univision” (Univision News) with anchors Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas won both races with 118,000 viewers aged 18 to 34 and a whopping 289,000 viewers aged 18 to 49, more than double the nearest competitor.  “The CBS Evening News” on WCBS-TV Channel 2 placed second among those aged 18 to 34 with 43,000 viewers, while “ABC World News” on WABC/7 placed second among those aged 18 to 49 with 136,000 viewers.
