Company committed to raise funds for victims
New York, NY -- Univision Communications Inc., the nation’s leading Spanish-language media company, today announced that it has partnered with the American Red Cross to help support the fundraising efforts to help those impacted by the devastating earthquake in Haiti. Univision will utilize its national and local television and radio assets, as well as its online and mobile platforms to reach Hispanics interested in contributing to the relief efforts.
“The people of Haiti have suffered unimaginable devastation and are in dire need of assistance. We have partnered with the American Red Cross to inform the caring and generous Hispanic community in the U.S. on how they can contribute to the disaster relief effort,” said Joe Uva, president and CEO, Univision Communications Inc.
“The generous contribution of Univision is critical to the ability of the American Red Cross to provide help and hope for the people of Haiti during their time of need," said Gail McGovern, president and CEO of the American Red Cross. “We are rushing supplies and disaster management staff to Haiti in the aftermath of this earthquake, and are very grateful for the support of Univision for our humanitarian mission.”
As part of the extensive, multi-platform effort, the Univision networks are leveraging their cross-promotion capabilities to promote the fundraising campaign through public service announcements (PSA’s) and special reports live from Haiti and from prominent Haitian communities in the U.S. The PSA’s are airing on all three Univision networks – Univision, TeleFutura and Galavisión. Some of Univision’s most popular programs, including “Sábado Gigante” (Giant Saturday), “Despierta América” (Wake Up America), “El Gordo y La Flaca” (The Scoop and the Skinny), “Primer Impacto” (First Impact) and “Noticiero Univision,” (Univision Network News) will guide viewers on how they can help those affected in Haiti and will feature special guests such as the senior director of the American Red Cross and Univision’s health expert Dra. Aliza Lifshitz.
Additionally, Univision will have ongoing coverage of the devastation with special programming airing this weekend starting with “Noticias Univision Presenta: Desastre en Haiti” (Univision News Presents Disaster in Haiti) special airing tonight at 10:00 p.m ET. “Primer Impacto Fin de Semana” (First Impact Weekend) will also air special segments focused on Haiti.

On a local level, the Univision Television Group will be providing up-to-the minute coverage from Haiti and will feature the toll-free number to help viewers join in and support the relief efforts for the victims.
Leveraging its 68 radio stations throughout the U.S., Univision Radio will be airing PSA’s encouraging listeners to make a donation to the American Red Cross. Radio also continues extensive news coverage as well as special interviews with experts and representatives of the Haitian community.
