Univision 41 Reporter Myriam Ayala Gets ‘Voices of the People’ in Run up to 2005 Elections
Gets public input to quiz candidates
New York, NY -- Univision 41 (WXTV), New York’s premier Spanish-language TV station, is sending veteran reporter Myriam Ayala to get the “Voices of the People.” “Las Voces del Pueblo con Myriam Ayala” (The Voices of the People with Myriam Ayala) will be seen Thursdays on the 6 pm “Noticias Univision 41” (Univision 41 News) with anchors Rafael Pineda and Denisse Oller.
In the new feature, Ayala, the most senior “Noticias Univision 41” reporter after anchor Rafael Pineda, will visit area businesses to ask people what is on their minds -- what would they ask the candidates for Mayor of New York and Governor of New Jersey if they were conducting the interview. The locations could be a beauty parlor in El Barrio, a Restaurant in Union City, New Jersey, or a loading dock in The Bronx. Ayala has been with WXTV for 22 years.
“What better way is there to understand what is on people’s minds than to spend some time with them?” Univision 41 news director Norma Morato asked rhetorically. “To my mind, this is far more effective than polling.”
In “Las Voces del Pueblo,” Ayala will take a page from the playbook of Gordon Elliott, the imposing Australian broadcast personality who made a name for himself knocking on doors unannounced for Fox TV’s “Good Day New York.”
“Myriam will go to her locations unannounced,” Morato says. “There will be no setup, no spin, no warning. Then, as the campaign progresses and we question the candidates, we can ask them with certainty how they will address what is on people’s minds because we’ll have the videotape of people telling us what is on their minds. If the candidates want to know what might be coming their way, they should watch ‘Noticias Univision 41’ on Thursday nights at 6.”
