Univision Continues Award Winning “Salud Es Vida...!Entérate!” Health Campaign With Special Program On Careers In Healthcare
New York, NY -- Univision Communications Inc. (NYSE: UVN), the leading Spanish-language media company in the United States, will air a special half-hour program on careers in healthcare. Hosted by Ana Maria Canseco of “Despierta America” (Wake Up America), the longest running and most successful morning show on Spanish-language television, “Entérate…Carreras en el Campo de la Salud” (Get the Facts…Careers in Healthcare), will air on Saturday, September 30, on all Univision stations across the country (check local listings for local time). The special program, part of Univision’s Peabody award-winning health initiative, “Salud es Vida…!Entérate!” (Lead a Healthy Life…Get the Facts!), will explore the substantial career opportunities available to Hispanics in the healthcare field and the enormous demand for bi-lingual medical staff.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts the healthcare industry, which employed 13.5 million people in 2004, will add nearly 3.6 million new jobs between 2004 and 2014, an increase of 27 percent. According to Heidi Casta, Policy and Legislation Team Leader for the Office of Policy Development and Research, of the Department of Labor, there are an increasing number of healthcare providers that are making sure they have employees who can understand Spanish in order to address the communication barriers between patients and healthcare professionals. The special will feature interviews with hospital representatives in charge of hiring bi-lingual staff to respond to the diverse linguistic needs of patients.
“Entérate…Carreras en el Campo de Salud” will also highlight a unique program in Los Angeles in which doctors mentor high school and college students with the objective of generating interest in medical careers. The program also offers information, provided by the National Alliance for Hispanic Health, about scholarships and financial opportunities for those interested in pursuing a career in medicine.
“Salud es Vida…!Entérate!” is a national effort designed to raise awareness, increase knowledge and encourage positive health decision-making. The initiative leverages Univision’s diverse media assets to educate its audience on health issues and promote primary prevention, habits of healthy living, access to care and disease-specific prevention and treatment.
