Spanish Language TV Station Wins NY Total Day Ratings First Time Ever
New York, NY -- In a “first” in New York TV ratings history, a Spanish-language television station has won New York’s sign-on to sign-off or “total day” ratings race according to Nielsen Station Index (NSI) Local People Meter (LPM) ratings. Univision 41 (WXTV), New York’s premier Spanish-language TV station, won the total day, or sign-on to sign-off, ratings race regardless of language in not one, but two, key audience categories according to NSI LPM ratings for Sunday, May 28, 2006. Univision 41 won not only the young adult demographic, persons aged 18 to 34, but also persons aged 18 to 49, the demographic group over which major English-language TV networks fight in the press. Sunday, May 28, is the first time since the inception of New York LPM ratings more than two years ago that Univision has won the total day ratings race in any key audience category. Prior to the inception of LPM ratings, demographic data were not available on a daily basis in local market TV ratings. Univision 41 was watched by 54,000 New York viewers aged 18 to 34 on an average quarter hour (AQH) basis (1.2 rating, 6 share) on Sunday, May 28, 2006, from 6 am to 2 am. Tribune’s WPIX Channel 11 was second with 39,000 viewers (0.9 rating, 4 share) aged 18 to 34 on an AQH basis. Among those aged 18 to 49, Univision 41 led with 101,000 viewers (1.1 rating, 5 share) on an AQH basis. WABC-TV Channel 7 placed second with 97,000 viewers (1.0 rating, 5 share). Univision 41 also won the prime time (8 pm to 11 pm) ratings race with 109,000 viewers (2.4 rating, 9 share) aged 18 to 34 and 199,000 viewers aged 18 to 49 (2.2 rating, 7 share).
