Univision 40 (WUVC) Makes History as First Spanish-Language Station to Receive an Emmy in the MidSouth Region
Raleigh, NC -- The 20th Annual Midsouth Regional Emmy® Awards were presented on Saturday, January 28th, in Nashville Tennessee at the Grand Ballroom of the Renaissance Nashville Hotel. WUVC Univision 40 was awarded an Emmy for a “Folic Acid” Public Service Announcement produced by Francisco Garcia. This achievement marked WUVC as the first and only Spanish-language recipient in this region.
WUVC worked in conjunction with March of Dimes to create Folic Acid awareness within the local Hispanic community and promote its use among women of childbearing age. According to Anna Bess Brown, Director of Program Services at March of Dimes, “Hispanics are at high risk for neural tube birth defects, and this PSA was a great way to reach many women with this important message. We have heard that women loved the folic acid public service announcement because it sparked emotion. They loved seeing the babies and thinking about the babies’ potential for the future. Univision did a marvelous job with the PSA and we have shared it with other states’ folic acid campaigns. We trust that more women are taking multivitamins as a result of seeing this beautiful PSA on Univision.”
