KLQV-FM “VIVA 102.9” FM joins St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the cutting edge research of catastrophic childhood diseases in celebrating the seventh Promesa y Esperanza (Promise and Hope) radiothon

San Diego, CA -- Univision Radio’s KLQV “VIVA 102.9” FM and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other childhood catastrophic diseases, celebrate the
fourth annual Promesa y Esperanza, Promise and Hope, radiothon. KLQV “VIVA
102.9” FM will broadcast the event August 11 and 12 from 6 am – 7pm live from
Westfield Shoppingtown Plaza Bonita. The purpose of the radiothon is to raise moneyto help children suffering from cancer, sickle cell disease, pediatric AIDS and other lifethreatening diseases. In previous years, KLQV “VIVA 102.9” FM raised more than $200,000 in pledges – thanks to its generous listeners.

Listeners will hear personal accounts from St. Jude patients and families about their
experience at the hospital and how St. Jude helped them in their fight against lifethreatening diseases. More than 19,000 children St. Jude has treated from all 50 states and 60 foreign countries since it opened its doors in 1962. The event will bring together the station’s local on-air talent broadcasting live from Westfield Plaza Bonita.

“We are proud to be part of the St. Jude family that impacts children’s lives children not only locally but all over the world,” said Mery Lopez-Gallo, director of Community Affairs for Univision Radio San Diego.

Since opening, St. Jude has developed protocols that have brought survival rates for
childhood cancers from less than 20 percent to better than 70 percent overall. St. Jude treats children from across the nation and around the world. Many patients who receive life-saving treatment are from Spanish-speaking countries, another reason why KLQV “VIVA 102.9” FM is passionate about sharing the mission of St. Jude with its listeners.

Promesa y Esperanza ¡para los niños del St. Jude! is a radiothon fund-raising program dedicated to supporting the medical treatment for St. Jude patients and new clinical research for catastrophic childhood diseases, mainly cancer. Since its inception in 1997, Promesa y Esperanza has grown to be one of the most successful radio fundraising programs in the U.S. Hispanic market, raising more than $12 million in pledges.

There are more than 79 Spanish-format radio stations in more than 48 markets across the U.S. committed to the program.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering
work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.

Founded by late entertainer Danny Thomas and based in Memphis, Tenn., St. Jude
freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world.
