KUVE’s Noticias Univision Arizona Takes 1st Place in Ratings among Adults Regardless of Language; “Noche de Estrellas” 2nd Most-Watched Show after American Idol


Tucson, AZ -- The February 2008 TV ratings book from Nielsen Media Research reveals that the favorite of Hispanics in Tucson… is also the favorite of all Tucson, regardless of language! … Univision 46/38 in Tucson has positioned itself as one of the preferred television stations in the area, becoming a leader in ratings among TV Stations in Tucson, regardless of language, as measured by the Nielsen Station Index (NSI) during the February 2008 Sweeps period, establishing several programs as rating winners against all competitors.

Several shows from KUVE’s lineup have become the favorites for Tucson audiences. Leading these great results, “Noticias Univision Arizona” has become the favorite name in news in Tucson, according to the NSI survey, regardless of language. The newscast has positioned itself as #1 during weekdays and Sundays, with its unique mix of local and state stories that directly affect the lives of the audience.

Another example is the success of the entertainment lineup for KUVE. Two of its novelas, “Yo Amo a Juan Querendón” (“I Love Irresistible Juan”) and “Pasión” (“Passion”) have consistently ranked as the top choice for audiences in their respective time periods, and staples such as the entertainment-magazine show “El Gordo y la Flaca” and the longest-running TV variety show in history, “Sábado Gigante” (“Giant Saturday”), continue to be leaders in their time periods, garnering bigger audiences than their competitors, regardless of language.

The greatest example of the power that KUVE has in garnering big audiences was the red-carpet special “Noche de Estrellas de Premio lo Nuestro”, which came in second only to juggernaut “American Idol”, beating all other competitors in its time period.

Furthermore, Univision KUVE 46/38 was the highest rated station in Tucson for many key dayparts and demographics. Demographic ratings highlights from the February NSI survey include the following:

• Univision KUVE 46/38 was the highest rating station in Tucson, regardless of language, in Daytime with Adults 18-34, Early Fringe with Adults 18-34, and #2 in Total Week with Adults 18-34, Weekday Primetime with Adults 18-34 and in Mornings with Adults 18-34.
• Univision KUVE’s highly-awarded evening newscast, “Noticias Univision Arizona at 5” ranked #1 with Adults 18-34 and #3 with Adults 18-49, Monday through Friday; and its Sunday newscast at 5 pm ranked as #1 with Adults 18-34 and #1 with Adults 18-49 (among regularly scheduled programs.)

Some additional information:

• With Adults 18-34, “Yo Amo a Juan Querendón” (“I Love Irresistible Juan” – Monday through Friday 6 pm – 7 pm – 6,900 Adults 18-34) beat both episodes of “Everybody Loves Raymond” (KTTU – My Network), “Entertainment Tonight” and “KOLD’s News 13” (KOLD – CBS), “Wheel of Fortune” and KGUN News at 6 pm (KGUN – ABC), “Access Hollywood” (NBC), TMZ and “George Lopez” (KWBA – CW).
• After American Idol, the highest rated program in primetime among adults 18-34 was “Noche de Estrellas de Premio lo Nuestro” with 18,900 Adult 18-34 viewers.
• Among regularly scheduled programs, novela “Pasión” (“Passion”) was the most watched program on Wednesday’s from 8 pm – 9 pm with Adults 18-34 & 18-49, going head to head with ABC’s “Supernanny”, FOX’s “Moment of Truth”, NBC’s “Law and Order”, CBS’s “Criminal Intent”, and Telemundo’s “Victoria.”
• “Sábado Gigante” (“Giant Saturday”), the longest running show in history, still ranks #1 among adults 18-34 and #2 with Adults 18-49 on Saturday nights from 7 pm – 10 pm. (9,700 Adults 18-34 and 10,900 Adults 18-49).
• The entertainment-magazine show “El Gordo y la Flaca” tied for the most watched program Monday through Friday 3 pm – 4 pm with Adults 18-34, beating out “Ellen” (KGUN – ABC), “Dr. Phil” (KVOA – NBC), “Al Rojo Vivo” (KHRR – Telemundo), and both episodes of “Judge Joe Brown” at 3 pm and 3:30 pm (KMSB – FOX).
• The newsmagazine show “Primer Impacto” (“First Impression”) is #1 with Adults 18-34 and #2 with Adults 18-49 and 25-54. With Adults 18-34, Primer Impacto beat out “Oprah” (KOLD – CBS), “Al Rojo Vivo” (KHRR – Telemundo), “Reba” (KWBA – CW), “People’s Court” (KMSB – FOX) and “Millionaire” (KGUN – ABC).
