Univision Channel 23 Receives Two Gabriel Awards

The Catholic Academy for Communication Arts Professionals bestows the awards at the 40th Annual Ceremony in Washington, D.C.

Washington, DC -- Univision 23 today announced that it has been awarded two prestigious 2005 Gabriel Awards. The silver angel statues were awarded to the station by the Catholic Academy for Communications Arts Professionals at the 40th annual awards ceremony in the nation’s capital on September 24.

The station won a Gabriel in the “News and Informational Local TV Release” category for its “Las Artes en la Educación” (Arts in Education) special as well as the ACE/FAAE Leadership Award earlier this year for its promotion of children’s involvement in the arts.   Produced in conjunction with Miami-Dade County Public Schools,  the special analyzes the importance of arts education through interviews with experts, teachers and educators. In addition, it showcases the work of students who have benefited by participating in art programs.

Univision 23 won the second Gabriel in the “Community Awareness/Public Service Announcement (PSA)” category for a series of announcements that educates parents of children with disabilities about the resources available to them.  The thirty-second PSAs focus on detecting disabilities such as autism, attention deficit disorder (ADD) and speech impediments.  The spots direct viewers to the National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities (NICHCY), which serves as a central source of information regarding disabilities in infants, toddlers, children, and youth.

For over 38 years, the Catholic Academy for Communications Arts Professionals has sponsored and presented the Gabriel Awards. Juries are composed of professionals from broadcasting, cablecasting, educational and religious production industries. These prestigious awards are designed to honor works of excellence in broadcasting programs, features, commercial spots and stations, recognizing outstanding artistic achievement in television and radio programming that serves, enriches and challenges audiences.
