Platinum Recording Artist Pilar Montenegro Reigns Supreme At Billboard Latin Music Awards
Univision Records’ International Pop Sensation Snares Three Prestigious Awards
Woodland Hills, CA -- Pilar Montenegro, the young and talented Mexican artist who dominated the Billboard charts in 2002 with her #1 smash hit “Quitame Ese Hombre,” snared three of the top awards at the 2003 Billboard Latin Music Awards, held in Miami on May 8, 2003.
Pilar was one of only two artists that received the highest number of nominations, with a total of seven, and one of two artists who won the most awards during the night. Once again, Pilar was nominated for sevral awards in two different music genres, Pop and Regional Mexican.
Following a stellar performance of her hit “Quitame Ese Hombre,” and a standing ovation from the audience, Pilar reigned supreme after winning “Regional Mexican Airplay Track of the Year, Female Group or Female Solo Artist” and “Regional Mexican Airplay Track of the Year, New Artist,” for the Norteño version of “Quitame Ese Hombre.” In addition, Pilar took home “Latin Pop Airplay Track of the Year, Female Artist” for the pop version of the same track.
The other four nominations were in the pop genre in the following categories: “Hot Latin Track of the Year,” and “Latin Pop Airplay Track of the Year, New Artist” for her #1 hit “Quitame Ese Hombre,” and “Latin Pop Album of the Year, Female Artist” and “Latin Pop Album of the Year, New Artist” for “Desahogo.”
Following a successful year and a long string of awards for Pilar Montenegro, evidenced by the certified RIAA Platinum Album for the outstanding sales of her most recent album “Desahogo,” three Lo Nuestro Latin Music Awards and most recently “El Heraldo” for “Song of the Year,” this talented and charismatic artist ruled once again both the Regional Mexican and pop categories of the award ceremony.
“Quítame Ese Hombre”, has undoubtedly positioned Pilar Montenegro as the unrivalled favorite recording artist of the Latin music industry globally in 2002 and 2003. The ongoing accolades and nominations in recent months corroborate the records set by Pilar in national and international music charts, which, according to Billboard magazine, have made her the first Latin performer ever to remain at #1 for eleven consecutive weeks.
The Billboard Latin Music Awards honor the most popular albums, songs and performers in Latin music, as determined by the actual sales and radio airplay data that reports to Billboard’s weekly charts during a one-year period from the issue dated February 16, 2002 through this year’s February 8th issue. These results are based on sales data compiled by Nielsen SoundScan and radio information monitored by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems; Billboard’s charts are the world’s most authoritative and referenced music charts.
