KMEX-TV Mantiene Posición de Liderazgo en Noticias en L.A. por Octavo Año Consecutivo de Acuerdo con los Sweeps de Mayo
KMEX-TV Also Top-Rated Among Primary Demographics in Key Dayparts,
including Primetime, Daytime and Early Fringe
Los Angeles, CA -- KMEX-TV, Channel 34, the nation’s leading Spanish-language television station, was again among the highest rated stations in Los Angeles, regardless of language, for virtually all major time periods and demographic groups. The station’s 6:00 p.m. newscast, “Noticias 34,” again posted higher ratings among all key demographics (Adults 18-34, 18-49, 25-49 and 25-54) than L.A.’s competing English-language newscasts. “Noticias 34” has now ranked first among Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49 for thirty-three (33) consecutive Nielsen Sweeps, back to May 1994 (eight years in a row). This is according to May 2002 demographic ratings data just released by Nielsen Media Research for the Los Angeles DMA. Highlights for the May Sweeps period (April 25 – May 22) include:
- “Noticias 34” maintained its reign as Los Angeles’ most watched early local newscast among all key demographic groups. Additionally, KMEX-TV’s broadcast of the network newscast, “Noticiero Univisión” at 6:30 p.m., posted higher ratings among Adults 18-34 and 18-49 than CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News and ABC World News Tonight.

- At 5:00 p.m., KMEX-TV’s broadcast of Univision’s popular network newsmagazine, “Primer Impacto”, posted higher ratings among all key demographic groups than all competing programs, including, “Al Rojo Vivo” on KVEA-TV and the English-language newscasts on KNBC-TV, KABC-TV and KCBS-TV.
- In Primetime, KMEX-TV was among the highest rated stations among key demographics. Fueled by the sizzling telenovelas “Amigas y Rivales” [Friends and Rivals] and ”El Privilegio de Amar”* [The Privilege to Love] at 8 p.m., “Salomé” at 9 p.m. and the station’s “checkerboard” programming from 10-11 p.m., KMEX-TV ranked #2 among Adults 18-34 and #3 among Adults 18-49.
