Telefutura’s “Objetivo Fama” Culminates with a Dramatic and Emotional Grand Finale

New York’s Anaís Martinez winner in record-breaking voting

Miami, FL -- After a long, grueling competition and approximately a million votes received through calls and Cingular Wireless text messages, the fans chose New Yorker Anaís Martinez as the winner of TeleFutura’s 2005 “Objetivo Fama” (“Objective: Fame”) with 32% of the votes. Azucena Salazar from Los Angeles, came in second place with 27% of the votes and Jayro Rosado, also from New York, took third place with 24%. Fourth place finisher, Rodolfo Castera of Puerto Rico, obtained 17% of the votes.

The grand finale of “Objetivo Fama” was broadcast live Sunday night from the Teatro de Bellas Artes de Caguas in Puerto Rico and was watched by more than a million viewers nationwide. It was the highest ranked “Objetivo Fama” telecast since the show premiere last January among Adults 18-49. As a result, TeleFutura also ranked as the #2 network among Hispanic adults 18-49, in any language, behind sister network Univision, the entire night. Also, in the Puerto Rico market, it averaged a 41 rating and 66% share, making it the month’s highest rated program in the island and the highest rated program in the history of WLII-TV.

Martínez, a native of Santo Domingo and a current New York resident, was notably emotional as she thanked her fans for their support throughout the competition. “This is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I cannot wait to get to know my fans closer and better”, she said. Martínez received a recording contract with Univision Music Group, and a brand new Pontiac G6 automobile, courtesy of General Motors, among other prizes.

The electrifying night began with a Red Carpet ceremony featuring Marisa del Portillo of “Escándalo TV” and Eddie “Piolín” Sotelo, the popular DJ from La Nueva 109.1 FM-Univision Radio who welcomed the 20 participants to the exciting event. One of the most surprising moments came when Carlos Rubén Salazar, a former contestant that had been forced to leave the contest for breaking the rules, proposed marriage to Karla, a dancer on the program.

The “Objetivo Fama” grand finale included a taped message from Ricky Martin, followed by an uplifting performance of all 20 singing “La Copa de La Vida”. Later, the hosts of the program, actor/singer Victor Noriega and Puerto Rican television personality Yizette Cifredo, interviewed the four finalists, who were overcome with emotion when they saw and heard their friends and family members sending them best wishes and special messages, live, from their respective home towns.
Mexican singer Manuel Mijares, the night’s special guest artist, sang the theme song from “El Privilegio de Amar” and delivered a positive message to the finalists. Before revealing the final results, the 20 finalists returned to the stage to perform the show’s theme song, “Encontraré Mi Estrella” (I’ll Find my Star).
