Beats WPIX, WWOR; 6 Pm Local News, 6:30 Pm Network News Have Biggest 25 – 54 Audience Ever; Univision #1 NY Sat. Prime-Time With "Sabado Gigante"


New York, NY -- Univision 41 (WXTV) has completed the February 2007 sweep period (Feb. 1 through 28, 2007) with the highest overall rank ever for a Spanish-language TV station in New York.  Even more significant, Univision 41’s 6 pm local weekday news got the biggest audience ever in New York for a 6 pm Spanish-language TV news program, not only scoring a personal best, but also beating English-language TV stations WNBC, WCBS-TV, and WNYW in the key news audience group, persons aged 25 to 54.
 
• Total Day (Sign-on to Sign-off):  Univision 41 (WXTV), New York’s premier Spanish-language TV station, finished fifth overall among New York’s TV stations in the broadest measures of audience, sign-on to sign-off (Monday-Sunday, 6 am to 2 am) in households and total persons according to Nielsen Station Index (NSI) Local People Meter (LPM) ratings with 185,000 persons watching per average quarter hour (AQH) in 133,000 households.  Univision 41 scored this personal best, the highest rank ever for a NY Spanish-language TV station, by beating both English-language WPIX Channel 11 (155,000 persons in 123,000 households) and WWOR Channel 9 (73,000 persons in 59,000 households) as well Spanish-language Telemundo’s WNJU Channel 47 (100,000 persons in 73,000 households).  Univision 41 is up seven percent in households and five percent in total persons.  WWOR’s total audience is the lowest ever for a major NY English-language TV station in the history of sweeps (since 1971).

• 6 pm local news & 6:30 pm network news:   Both “Noticias Univision 41” (Univision 41 News, 6 pm to 6:30 pm) and “Noticiero Univision” (Univision News, 6:30 pm to 7 pm) scored personal bests in the key news audience group, persons aged 25 to 54.  Both programs finished second only to WABC-TV Channel 7, scoring the highest rank for Spanish-language local and network weekday news in New York since the implementation of Local People Meters by Nielsen in 2004.  “Noticias Univision 41” with anchors Rafael Pineda and Denisse Oller attracted 177,000 viewers aged 25 to 54, beating its previous record of 161,000 set in November 2004.  Network news “Noticiero Univision” with Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas attracted 183,000 viewers, beating its record of 180,000 set in November 2004.

• Univision #1 in NY Sat. Prime-Time:  Univision’s three hour “Sabado Gigante,” seen Saturdays from 8 pm to 11 pm makes Univision 41 (WXTV) number one in New York for Saturday prime-time with a whopping 155,000 viewers aged 18 to 49, the key measure of prime-time audience.  WABC-TV placed second with 123,000.
 
Sweeps are the four, four-contiguous-week periods each year in which the audiences of TV stations nationwide are measured in order to set advertising rates.
