Las Noticias 41 de las 11 PM Camino a un Récord de Ratings en la Televisión en Español
New York, NY -- The late evening local newscast on Spanish-language UHF-TV station Univision 41 (WXTV) here is poised to set a ratings record for Spanish-language television in New York. With data for the first full week (April 25 - May 1) of the May 2002 sweep tabulated, "Noticias 41," the 11 pm weekday local newscast on Univision 41 with anchors Rafael Pineda and Denisse Oller, is poised to score the highest average household rating ever attained by an 11 pm Spanish-language weekday newscast in New York.
For the first week of the May 2002 sweep, the 11 pm "Noticias 41" averaged a 4.1 Nielsen Station Index (NSI) rating and 7 share, its highest sweep average rating and share ever and the highest such average score ever for a late evening Spanish-language TV news program in Gotham.
"Noticias 41" beat the formidable off-network "Seinfeld" on Fox-owned WNYW Channel 5. The latter scored 3.9/7 for the first week of the May sweep. If the trend continues, "Noticias 41" could beat "CBS2 Nightcast" on WCBS-TV Channel 2. "Nightcast" scored 4.3/7 for the first week of the sweep. It would be a first for Spanish-language TV.
Propelled by record breaking ratings for "Noticias 41" and for novelas such as "Salome," the story of the star of a lounge act in a second-rate nightclub in a tough part of Mexico City, Univision 41 is set to equal its best overall ratings performance of all time. For the first week of the May 2002 sweep Univision 41 scored a 2.3/5 NSI rating/share, equal to its record setting score for the November 2001 sweep.
Sweeps are the four, four-week periods each year in which the audiences of TV stations nationwide are measured to set advertising rates.
Each New York Nielsen Station Index rating point represents 73,010.6 TV households.
