TeleFutura NY Rompe Récord de Audiencia-Jóven de Gotham Gana Concurso de Talento Hispano

TeleFutura beats major NY English language station sign-on to sign-off for the first time ever

New York, NY -- New York’s TeleFutura TV stations, WFUT-TV Channel 68 and WFTY-TV Channel 67 (the latter a repeater in Smithtown, Long Island) have shattered all ratings records with the grand finale of “Objetivo Fama” (Fame is the Goal) the Spanish-language TV talent hunt program, seen last night (Sunday, May 1) from 8 pm to 10 pm Eastern Time.  It did not hurt the New York area ratings that the grand prizewinner is a young, Dominican-American woman from the Bronx, Anais Martinez, who, along with Newark, New Jersey’s Jayro Rosado, was one of four finalists featured in the two-hour finale.  Martinez’s prize is a recording contract with Univision Music Group.  TeleFutura, the nation’s newest full-service TV network, is a unit of Univision Communications, Inc., which also owns New York’s premier Spanish-language TV station, Univision 41 (WXTV).

The finale of “Objetivo Fama” and its lead-in, “Rumbo a la Fama” (On the Road to Fame), seen from 7 pm to 8 pm Eastern Time, emerged as the two highest rated programs in the history of New York’s TeleFutura TV stations.  “Objetivo Fama” last night broke the previous TeleFutura New York audience record, set by last week’s episode of “Objetivo Fama,” by a whopping 65 percent.  The combination enabled Gotham’s TeleFutura outlets to beat a major, commercial English-language VHF-TV station (Fox-owned WWOR Channel 9) in the sign-on to sign-off ratings for the first time ever.

Here are the statistics:

• Ratings Up 65% in one week:  Objetivo Fama” was seen in an average of 279,528 NY TV households, an increase of 65% over the previous TeleFutura Nielsen Station Index (NSI) household audience record set one week earlier by “Objetivo Fama.”

• A huge hit with 18-34 demo:  “Objetivo Fama” was a huge hit with the hard-to-reach 18 to 34 year old audience, among whom a record (for TeleFutura in New York) 211,923 saw it.  That made “Objetivo Fama” third in its time period in New York regardless of language, behind only ABC-TV and Fox.

• Companion program sets ratings records:  Its lead-in, “Rumbo a la Fama,” was seen in an estimated 250,104 TV households, making it the highest rated 7 pm to 8 pm program in the history of TeleFutura in New York and the second highest rated program (at any time period) in TeleFutura New York history, behind only the finale of “Objetivo Fama.”

• Companion program wins time period, regardless of language, with young viewers, a first for TeleFutura NY:  “Rumbo a la Fama” emerged as the highest rated program in its time-period, regardless of language, among New York viewers aged 18-34, of whom an estimated 112,725 watched it.  It is the first time a TeleFutura program in New York won its time period in a major audience category.

• A hit with 18-49 and 25-54 demos:  Both “Rumbo a la Fama” and “Objetivo Fama” enabled TeleFutura locally to score personal bests among viewers aged 18 to 49 and 25 to 54:  “Rumbo” was seen by 222,576 persons aged 18-49 and 255,577 aged 25-54.  “Objetivo” was seen by a record high 315,316 viewers aged 18-49 and 317,268 viewers aged 25-54.

• TeleFutura NY beats major English-language station for first time ever, sign-on to sign-off:  The combination of “Rumbo” and “Objetivo” enabled New York’s TeleFutura station to beat a major, English-language commercial TV station in the sign-on to sign-off (6 am to 2 am) ratings for the first time ever.  TeleFutura scored a New York NSI household sign-on to sign-off rating/share of 1.2/3, the highest in its history.  It beat the 0.8/2 scored by Fox TV’s WWOR Channel 9 to finish sixth in the broadest measure of audience, its highest rank since it signed on in January 2002.
