Por Quinta Vez en Dos Semanas Novela en Español le Gana a ‘Jeopardy’ y ‘Wheel of Fortune’ en NY

New York, NY -- For the fifth time in barely two weeks, a Spanish-language telenovela has beaten perennial victors “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune” in the key audience measure in New York’s overnight Nielsen ratings race.  On the same evening, Univision also won New York’s early news races at 5 pm, 6 pm, and 6:30 pm.
 
“Piel de Otoño,” a telenovela seen weekdays from 7 pm to 8 pm on Univision 41 (WXTV), New York’s premier Spanish-language TV station, won its time period last night (Thursday, January 12, 2006) in the key audience measure, viewers aged 18 to 49 years old with 221,000 viewers according to Nielsen Station Index (NSI) overnight Local People Meter (LPM) ratings.  Perennial victors “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune” on WABC-TV Channel 7 finished third for the hour among those aged 18 to 49 with 161,000 viewers.  Telemundo’s WNJU Channel 47 placed second from 7 pm to 8 pm with 215,000 viewers aged 18 to 49.
 
Last night (January 12, 2006), was the fifth instance in two weeks in which telenovela “Piel de Otoño” beat “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune” in New York among viewers aged 18 to 49.  “Piel de Otoño” also beat “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune” in the 18 to 49 demographic on December 29 and 30, 2005 and on January 4 and 10 2006.
 
Univision 41 also won New York’s early news races among young adult viewers yesterday. 
 
Newsmagazine “Primer Impacto” (First Impression) seen from 5 pm to 6 pm won its time period in New York among those aged 18to 49 with 144,000 viewers.  WABC/7’s 5 pm news placed second with 121,000 viewers. 
 
At 6 pm “Noticias Univision 41” (Univision 41 News) with anchors Rafael Pineda and Denisse Oller was watched by 156,000 viewers aged 18 to 49.  WNBC/4’s 6 pm news was second in the news race with 128,000 viewers aged 18 to 49. 
 
In the 6:30 pm network news race, “Noticiero Univision” (Univision News) with anchors Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas attracted a whopping 192,000 viewers aged 18 to 49 while “ABC World News” on WABC/7 placed second among those aged 18 to 49 with 145,000 viewers.
