New York, NY -- Four lucky New York area young residents with dreams of stardom have made it to the semi-finals for the fourth season of “Objetivo Fama” (Objective Fame) TeleFutura’s televised talent hunt for the next Latin music sensation. “Objetivo Fama” is a reality-competition series seen weekly on the Univision-owned TeleFutura television network, one of the leading Spanish-language television networks in the US. TeleFutura is seen in the New York area on WFUT-TV Channel 68, New York, and WFTY Channel 67, Smithtown, Long Island. The lucky four were selected from more than three hundred on Sunday, November 19, at an open call for Spanish-speaking singers held at Betty’s Catering in Queens, NY. Many of the contestants waited in line as early as midnight for doors to open at 8 am. New York area contestants have a track record in “Objetivo Fama.” Anais Martinez of The Bronx won the second season of “Objetivo Fama.” She has gone on a recording career with Univision Music Group and a Latin Grammy Nomination in 2006. The four semi-finalists selected on Sunday are Julissa Morel, 18, of Washington Heights; Jose Vargas, 27, of The Bronx, Natalie Vasquez, 21, of The Bronx, and Frances Marrero, 27, of Buffalo. Morel is not short on enthusiasm. She arrived at the auditions at 2 am and waited six hours until doors opened at eight. Her parents hail from the Dominican Republic. The Puerto Rican born Vargas lost 70 pounds before auditioning. This is his second shot at “Objetivo Fama.” He was a semi-finalist in season three. Natalie Vasquez, born in the Dominican Republic, began modeling as a child. She discovered her passion for singing in a childhood modeling competition. Frances Marrero, born in Puerto Rico, counts her four-year-old daughter as her biggest fan. This is her third and thus far most successful try at “Objetivo Fama.” The semi-finalists will compete to become finalists. Finalists will be sent to the TeleFutura studios in Puerto Rico, where they will rehearse and rehearse and rehearse. Their best efforts will be featured in the fourth season of “Objetivo Fama,” which will begin early in 2007. Each week, one contestant will be eliminated until the winner is crowned.
