CBS/2 Pierde vs. Univision a las 6 AM, 5 PM, 6 PM, y 11 PM en la Mitad del Sweep de Julio

New York, NY -- New York TV ratings history is being made. Today, at the midpoint of the July 2002 sweep, Spanish-language Univision 41(WXTV) here is poised to beat CBS-owned WCBS-TV Channel 2 in key weekday news races at 6 am, 5 pm, 6 pm, and 11 pm.  If the trend holds up, it will be the first time in New York TV history that a Spanish- language TV station has beaten a major, network-owned English-language TV station in every key weekday local news race.  In addition, as of today, Univision's network newscast, "Noticiero Univision," seen weekdays at 6:30 pm, is tied with the "CBS Evening News" locally with a 3.1 Nielsen Station Index average rating and 6
share.  And Univision's breakfast show, "Despierta America" (Wake Up America), seen weekdays 7 am to 10 am, is beating the "CBS Early Show," seen weekdays 7 am to 9 am, with 1.5/5 NSI vs. 0.9/3 NSI.

Here are the ratings:

6 am to 7 am:   "Noticias 41 al Despertar" (Channel 41 News at Dawn)
with Ramon Zayas, Birmania Rios, and weatherman Jack Rico, is up 117% to
1.3/6 NSI from 0.6/3.  That beats the 6 am "CBS2News" which is down 25%
from 0.8/4 to 0.6/3.

5 pm to 6 pm:  Univision's news magazine, "Primer Impacto" (First
Impression) is up 19% to 2.5/6 NSI from 2.1/5.  That beats the 2.3/5 NSI
scored by "CBS2News at 5 pm."

6 pm to 6:30 pm:  Local newscast "Noticias 41" (Channel 41 News) with
Rafael Pineda and Denisse Oller is up 33% to 3.6/7 NSI from 2.7/6.  That
beats the 2.6/5 scored by "CBS2News at 6 pm."

11 pm to 11:30 pm:  "Noticias 41" at 11 pm with Pineda and Oller scores
3.5/6 NSI, up 52% from last year's 2.3/4, to beat the 3.4/6 scored by
"CBS2 Nightcast."

In other ratings news, WPIX Channel 11's "WB11 News at Ten" jumps from
third place to second in the 10 pm news race, up 14% to 3.2/5 NSI from
2.8/5.  "Fox 5 News at 10" on WNYW Channel 5 scores 4.8/8, while "UPN 9
News" on WWOR Channel 9 slips to third with 2.8/5, down 18% from 3.4/5
last year.  "The WB11 Morning News," seen weekdays from 6 am to 8 am on
WPIX/11 has jumped 50% compared to its July 2001 sweeps average.  "The
WB11 Morning News" scores 1.5/6 vs. 1.0/4 a year ago.  Meanwhile "Good
Day New York" on WNYW/5, 7 am to 9 am, has slipped 41% to 2.0/6 NSI from
3.4/11 NSI last year.  WNBC/4's "Live at Five" leads the 5 pm news race
with 6.2/14.  WABC/7 is second with 5.3/12.  Both tie the 6 pm news race
with 5.8/12, while WNBC/4 leads the 11 pm race at 6.1/11 vs. 5.4/10 for
second place WABC/7.  Each New York Nielsen Station Index rating point
represents 73.010.6 TV households.
