Philadelphia, PA -- In an ongoing effort to serve the local Hispanic community, TeleFutura WFPA 28, will host Copa América 2004 viewing events for area residents. Copa América, the highest profile tournament in the Western Hemisphere, will be broadcast exclusively on Univision and TeleFutura. Fans will have a unique opportunity to watch three Copa América matches airing on TeleFutura, at La Esmeralda Restaurant in North East Philadelphia.
During each viewing event WFPA will raffle off prizes. WFPA News Anchor, Ilia Garcia, will make a guest appearance and sign autographs. Viewing events will be hosted on the following game dates:
• Monday, July 12 Peru v. Colombia 8:30 pm – 10:40 pm • Tuesday, July 13 Argentina v. Uruguay 8:30 pm – 10:40 pm • Saturday, July 17 Quarterfinal Match (teams TBA) 8:30 pm – 10:40 pm
Location address: La Esmeralda Restaurant 4565 Torresdale Ave. Philadelphia, PA 215-743-6355
Copa América puts top national teams against each other to crown the champion of South America. This tournament stirs the greatest passion in the same way non-Hispanic viewers get excited about the Super Bowl – it’s nation vs. nation, where flag-waving, chanting, even group-dynamics can come into play: it becomes an almost tribal, shared experience.
“We are thrilled to be bringing such a prestigious tournament to the local Hispanic community,” said Diana Bald, Acting General Manager of TeleFutura WFPA. “Copa América is an exciting event and source of pride for all Hispanics.”
Copa América dates back 94 years, making it the longest-running, most-established soccer competition in the World; the 2004 edition will be the 41st time the competition is held. Held every four years, Copa América features all the national teams from South America and two guest nations in a series of elimination matches to determine the Champion of South America. The 2004 event will include 26 total matches, played in seven cities in Perú.
