San Diego’s Premier Spanish-Language Pop Station Turns One-Year-Old

San Diego, CA -- VIVA 102.9 KLQV-FM, San Diego’s premiere Spanish-Language Contemporary Pop station, celebrates its first anniversary today, April 1st.

VIVA 102.9 FM (formerly 102.9 K-Love), known for its popular “Mario Alberto en las Mañanas” morning show and its mix of the best Spanish Pop music, has had a great first year in existence, thanks to tremendous audience loyalty as well as the support of the advertiser community.

The station was named the Spanish-Language Radio Station of the Year at the 2004 NAB Marconi Awards.

Univision Radio San Diego General Manager and Vice President Peter Moore said, “We’ve had the great opportunity to serve the San Diego market for the past seven years with our 102.9 FM and La Nueva 106.5FM signals. We’re very pleased that VIVA has proven to be the precise format that both our audience and the advertising community have been looking for. We’re excited about what’s coming up for VIVA 102.9 FM in 2005 and beyond.”

VIVA 102.9 listeners have enjoyed numerous live in-studio performances from prime performers such as Aleks Syntek, Julieta Venegas, Sin Bandera, Aterciopelados, Kalimba, Elefante, Inspector and others.

“We’re in a golden age of creativity among Latin artists and some of the most exciting music is happening in Spanish Pop. Not only is the music innovative and exciting, but it’s extremely popular among our audience,” said KLQV Program Director Josue Villa.

VIVA 102.9 caters to the 18 to 44 demographic and includes the popular “VIVA ROCK” music show as well as the award-winning “De Viva Voz” community affairs program.
